Cold-Laser Therapy
Cryosurgery
Our laser has been in use since late 2019, but we want everyone to know how paw-some its applications and use in veterinary medicine are!
Photobiomodulation therapy, also known as cold-laser therapy. This laser therapy is used as a surgery-free, drug-free and noninvasive treatment to: reduce pain, reduce inflammation, and speed up healing.
Class IV deep tissue laser therapy uses a beam of laser light to deeply penetrate tissue without damaging it. Laser energy induces a biological response in the cells called "Photobiomodulation", which leads to reduced pain, reduced inflammation and increased healing speed. Find more information about laser therapy here.
What is Cryosurgery?
Cryosurgery is a form of cryotherapy, specifically a procedure that uses extreme cold to destroy tissue. The process is cryonecrosis, i.e. tissue destruction by freezing.
What are the quality criteria for cryosurgery treatment?
It starts with the evaluation of the size and the depth of the lesion. Repeat procedures may be needed for delicate areas or deep lesions.
How is cryosurgery better than other methods of removing skin lesions?
Cryosurgery requires no anesthesia and causes little or no scarring, and requires minimal post-treatment care.
Will patients activities be limited, and for how long, after the procedure?
There are no limitations on activity except to protect the treated area from damage or abrasion. Swimming and bathing is not a problem.
Is a follow-up needed?
Most lesions will deteriorate and fall off within 2 - 3 weeks. If lesions are still present at that time, retreatment is recommended.
